COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 24, 2012) – About 15 miles west of our house (as the birds fly), the Waldo Canyon Fire is burning for its second day without containment. Roughly 7,000 people have evacuated and more than 2,500 acres have burned. The wildland fire is one of at least eight fires burning today across Colorado. According to the Gazette, Gov. John Hickenlooper said there are 70 helicopters and air tankers fighting fires in Colorado. Peterson Air Force Base has committed two C-130 air tankers for action Monday at Waldo Canyon.
