Notre-Dame Basilica’s sanctuary and altar Sept. 1, 2012, in the historic district of Old Montreal in Quebec. Four scenes from the Old Testament encircling the crucifixion of Christ: in the lower right, Abraham sacrifices his son, Isaac, who is believed to have been replaced by a lamb; lower left, Melchisidech offers of bread and wine; upper left, Moses establishes the commandments concerning ritual animal sacrifice at the altar; and upper right, Aaron sacrifices a lamb according to tradition. Located at 110 Notre-Dame Street West, the basilica is world renown for its Gothic Revival architecture, one of the most dramatic in the world.
